International Law

The Nigerian Law Society (NLS) recognizes the importance of international law in today's globalized world. We believe that a strong and effective international legal framework is essential for promoting peace, security, and development around the world.

Our International Law Policy Agenda focuses on the following areas:

  • International Human Rights: We work to promote and protect human rights in Nigeria and around the world. This includes advocating for the ratification and implementation of international human rights treaties, and for reforms to domestic laws and policies that are inconsistent with international human rights standards.

  • International Criminal Law: We support the work of international criminal courts and tribunals, and we advocate for the prosecution of individuals who are responsible for international crimes such as genocide, war crimes, and crimes against humanity.

  • International Trade Law: We work to promote fair and equitable trade practices, and we advocate for the protection of the rights of Nigerian businesses and consumers in international trade agreements.

  • International Environmental Law: We support the development and implementation of international environmental treaties and agreements, and we advocate for policies and practices that promote sustainable development and environmental protection.

  • International Humanitarian Law: We support the development and implementation of international humanitarian law, and we advocate for the protection of civilians in armed conflict.

The Nigerian Law Society is committed to promoting and upholding the principles of international law, and to advocating for policies and practices that promote peace, security, and development around the world.
