Criminal Law and National Security
The Nigerian Law Society (NLS) recognizes the critical role of criminal law and national security in promoting the rule of law and protecting the safety and security of all Nigerians. Our Criminal Law and National Security Policy Agenda aims to promote a fair and effective criminal justice system, while also protecting the national security interests of our country.
Our work in this area includes:

Advocacy and Reform: We advocate for reforms to Nigeria's criminal justice system to ensure that it is fair, effective, and in line with international human rights standards. We also advocate for reforms to national security laws and policies to ensure that they protect the national security interests of our country, while also respecting human rights and the rule of law.

Legal Aid and Support: We provide legal aid and support to individuals who have been affected by criminal law and national security policies. This includes providing legal representation, advice, and support to individuals who have been detained or affected by national security policies.

Capacity Building: We work to build the capacity of legal practitioners, policymakers, and other stakeholders to promote a fair and effective criminal justice system and to protect national security interests. This includes providing training, resources, and support to legal practitioners and other stakeholders.

Research and Advocacy: We conduct research and analysis on criminal law and national security issues in Nigeria, and we use this research to inform our advocacy and policy development work. We also engage in public education and awareness-raising activities to promote a better understanding of these issues among the Nigerian public.
At the Nigerian Law Society, we are committed to promoting a fair and effective criminal justice system, while also protecting the national security interests of our country. We believe that these goals are not mutually exclusive and that we can work towards both by promoting the rule of law, human rights, and good governance in Nigeria.
